Students who missed one or two MCAS sessions will make up the assessment this week. Families of students who need to make up a session were emailed over vacation. Makeups will run Tuesday-Friday, as needed.

MCAS ELA for all students will be held on Monday, April 8th and Thursday, April 11th. It is important for every student to come to school with a fully charged Chromebook.

Tomorrow, Thursday, April 4, 6th and 7th grade teams will be taking team pictures. 8th grade will be taking an 8th grade class photo. Students will be outside for approximately 10 minutes for team photos and the 8th grade class photo takes about 20 minutes. Please advise students to dress accordingly.

Thanks to the partnership between the MVMMS PTO and the local YMCA, the YMCA Early Release After-School Program will run tomorrow from dismissal (12:41 p.m.) until 2:45 p.m. in the MVMMS Gym. The program provides a safe place for middle schoolers to play games, work on their homework, and socialize with friends.

Dismissal note reminder: please remember that when students need to be dismissed from school, they should bring in a note to school. Please remind your student that they should first report to homeroom, so that they are marked present. They will then bring the dismissal note to the office to receive a dismissal pass.

Reminder, there is no school tomorrow Friday, March 29th.
Last day of school is now Friday, June 14th.

At MVMMS, school starts are 8:15am. Students who enter the building after the 8:15am bell, are marked tardy. In the month of March, we saw the average daily rate of students tardy to school at 7%.
Timeliness is a crucial life skill that directly impacts academic success and future endeavors. By instilling punctuality in our students, we are helping them develop responsibility and respect for others' time, setting them up for success both inside and outside the classroom.
Starting this week, we will be monitoring student’s tardies to school weekly. When a student has accrued 5 unexcused tardies to school, they will be assigned an after school detention. Tardy detentions will be served on Thursdays from 2:45 to 3:15.
We understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise, and students may be excused temporarily from school attendance for various reasons outlined in the district's policy. If your student will be tardy due to reasons such as illness, bereavement, inclement weather, observance of major religious holidays, or other exceptional reasons, please communicate with the MVMMS Main Office, so we can appropriately address the situation.
You are able to see your student’s attendance history, including tardies, in the Aspen Family Portal.

Reminder for 8th Grade students and families: tomorrow is the 8th Grade Field Trip. Please arrive on time to school at 8:10 a.m.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: There will be NO SCHOOL on FRIDAY MARCH 29TH. Please update your calendars.

The MVMMS Lost and Found is overflowing. If your student is missing a water bottle, a jacket, or any other belongings, please remind them to check the Lost and Found in the Cafeteria. Thank you

On Monday, March 18th, we will welcome Steve Kidd, ELA Curriculum Speaker, to the MVMMS Auditorium. He will host an assembly for Grade 7 students during PRIME and A-Block.
Sigh/Omelas, a play written and performed by Steve Kidd, consists of real life monologues woven into the body of the short story The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas. The narrative, therefore, goes back and forth between Omelas and the real life monologues. The pairing enables students to not only hear, honor and appreciate these stories, but also consider in what ways we as a society choose to not recognize populations of people in need and how can we, as a new generation of people, reverse that trend.
The unit focuses on empathy and storytelling. Students walk away knowing that their story is important and they have the dramatic tools to express it. Additionally, through connecting the literature we read to real stories, students are able to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Breakfast and Arrival Reminders
MVMMS offers free breakfast for students, every school day. The breakfast is offered from 7:30am - 8:00am each day. Students who are getting breakfast need to arrive to the cafe by 8:00am.
We have seen a significant increase in the number of students who are coming to the cafe in the morning and are not eating or getting breakfast. We do not have enough supervision at this time to allow all students to enter the cafe to socialize. Only students who are eating breakfast will be allowed to enter the cafe between 7:30 - 8:00 am.
Additional Notes:
Students are not allowed to use their Chromebooks while they are eating and drinking.
Once students have finished eating and have thrown away trash, they may use their Chromebook until 8:10am.
Once students enter the cafe, they are expected to remain in the cafe until the school opens at 8:10am.

T2 comes to an end on Friday, March 15th. The T2 grade entry window is open. T2 grades are due on Friday, March 22nd.
T3 classes will begin on Monday, March 18th. T3 rosters are currently being populated and will be completed by Wednesday.
T2 report cards will be posted on Wednesday, March 27

A friendly reminder from the MVMMS Office: Daylight Savings Time starts this Sunday, March 10th. Remember we "Spring Forward" by an hour. We look forward to seeing students at 8:10 a.m. Monday morning.

Due to the weather, and the forecast of freezing rain followed by additional snow, all after school activities are cancelled for today, Tuesday, January 16th. This includes Ed Stations, in-district extracurricular activities, and scheduled sporting events and practices, including those scheduled by the Rec Dept. All students should plan for a regular dismissal.
The middle school will close at 3:00
Stay safe!
