School Profile

It is the mission of the Lincoln School to provide a nurturing, safe environment that will foster a love of learning, with the expectation that all students will be challenged to strive for their personal best.  It is also our mission to have a school environment characterized by tolerance and respect.  We encourage and actively involve parents/caregivers and the community at large in the education of our children.

The original Lincoln School, built in 1896, was opened as a high school.  The new wing incorporates many architectural features of the old school and a clock tower graces the southeast corner of the building.  The Lincoln School is a building that links a historic landmark with modern architecture.  Reopened on September 6, 2000, the Lincoln is now a K-5 school with over 400 students.  The school library, with over 10,000 volumes, is a tremendous resource.  Technology features include Smartboards in every classroom and Chromebook carts.

Our teaching is designed to take advantage of the natural curiosity of elementary children.  All Melrose Public Elementary Schools offer standards-based curricula that adhere to the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.  Grade level, ELL (English Language Learners) and special education teachers collaborate to meet the needs of our diverse learners.  Students who need additional academic support have access to Title I Intervention Tutors.  All students, no matter what their individual needs, are in our inclusive general education classrooms. Art, music, physical education and health classes complete the education of the whole child.

Lincoln promotes positive behavior through the "Lincoln 3-R" program: Respect, Responsibility and Ready to Learn.  The students are consistently recognized for demonstrating attributes associated with the "3 R's" and for making positive contributions.  Students are encouraged to support one another by reaching out in friendship and respect.  Our school mascot is "Lucky the Lion".

We value the contributions of our parents as school volunteers and encourage all parents to join the PTO.  We have an active and talented PTO whose goal is to ensure all students have the best elementary school experience possible and one that each child will remember fondly for years to come.  PTO fundraising supports field trips, enrichment programs and curriculum based projects.

Students and parents will find Lincoln to be an exciting place to learn, grow and develop.  We are proud of our students and their accomplishments.
