Public Hearing on School Choice school year 2022-2023

At their meeting scheduled for Tuesday, January 25, 2022, the Melrose School Committee will hold a public hearing on School Choice in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 76, Section 12B (d) for the 2022-2023 school year.

The School Choice program as set forth in M.G.L. c. 76, §12B allows for students to attend a public school in a city or town where the student does not reside. The Melrose Public Schools did not participate in the School Choice program for the 2021-2022 school year, however an annual public hearing and vote is required by the Statute.

The hearing will begin at 7:00 p.m. All interested persons will be given an opportunity to be heard for or against school choice.

At this time the School Committee plans to continue to meet in person in the Council Chamber of City Hall. As allowed by the “Act Extending Certain COVID-19 Measures Adopted During the State of Emergency”, if needed, due to the rapidly changing public health situation, this meeting may be moved to the WebEx platform. A public access link will be posted if/when it is needed. If the School Committee and Superintendent meet in-person in the Council Chamber of City Hall the meeting will be recorded. The public is allowed to attend in-person or watch the meeting live on local cable station MMTV (Channels 3, 15, and 22 on the Comcast or Channels 37, 38, and 39 on Verizon). For the public comment portion of this meeting, members of the public may provide comment in person or remotely via the WebEx audio feature. If you would like to make a public comment remotely, please email School Committee Chair Jennifer McAndrew ( <>) by 5:30 pm on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 and a WebEx audio link will be provided.
