POLICY MANUAL
The Official Policy Manual
of the Melrose Public Schools has a number of levels of organization.
First of all, the Manual is
divided into six series of policies, each designated by a number in the thousands
place of a four-digit number.
Number Policy
Series
1000 Community
Relations
2000 Administration
3000 Fiscal
Management and
Non-Instructional
Operations
4000 Personnel
5000 Students
and Instruction
6000 School
Committee
Each
series is then divided into sections related to the Policy Series
designated by a number in hundreds place of a four-digit number. For example, the School Committee sections
which are in numerical order 6101, 6102,6103, etc. all deal with School
Committee policies. For example:
6204 Legal Status
6212 Conflict of Interest
6307 Approval of Handbooks
6505 Rules of Order
Occasionally,
a section will be divided into a number of paragraphs and subparagraphs. These are numbered by use of the policy
number and one or two place decimals such as policy 1101 which deals with Communications
with the Public. This policy extends
to Media Relations/News Releases 1105, Taping and Video 1108, Rental Process
1102, etc.
The
scheme is simple and easy to keep. A
disk is provided for changes and updates of Policies as the School Committee
works on its Policies.
