Board Game Club
The Melrose Board Game Club (MBGC) will be held after school in Mr. Crooks' room C312. Do you like playing Risk? Do you like playing Monopoly? Stratego? Checkers? Chess? Play interesting and unique board games after school. Meet other people with similar interests. Make new friends and compete against them.

| Drama Club All students are eligible to join the MVMMS Drama Club. At each rehearsal (see: Drama Rehearsal Sechedule, you must bring your script! You may also bring a snack and a drink. You will be asked to do your homework or study when you are not needed on stage. This year's play will be "Alice in Wonderland." Mondays and Tuesdays

Environmental Club
All students may join the MVMMS Environmental Club. Do you wonder where your garbage goes when you throw it away? Do you wonder what the big deal is with global warming? What about alternative energy like wind and solar power? If so, the MVMMS Environmental Club is for you. We will learn about and discuss pollution and recycling, global warming, alternative energy, deforestation, sustainability, and many other topics. Having these discussions will help us make the earth a better place to live. Please join us after school in Room B408. | Free Rice Club The Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School Free Rice Club will meet in Room C213. For each vocabulary word the members of the Free Rice Club get right using the Free Rice website, the Internet and the classroom SMARTBoard, a donation of twenty grains of rice will be donated to hungry people via the United Nations. The Free Rice Club has the following goals: 1) To learn new English vocabulary words, 2) To help end world hunger by providing rice to hungry people for free. The free rice is made possible by sponsors who advertise on the Free Rice website. The activity will help you become a better student, and it will help feed hungry people. | Investment Club Members of the club will learn investment skills and strategies by managing a virtual portfolio of stocks and securities. The Investment Club will be competing online with other schools in the Stock Market Game.

| Library Club The Library Club meets every day after school. The library is open from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m., Monday - Friday, for students who would like to read, obtain a book, finish a project, and/or conduct research. Mrs. Arnold is always willing to help. See you there!

| Math Team The Math Team will meet various times during the school year. The Math Team is part of the Intermediate Math League of Eastern Massachusetts. The math team is open to all middle school students. The first round will be against middle school math teams from Marblehead Middle School, Baldwin School (Cambridge), St. Mary's School (Danvers), Ford School (Lynn), Immaculate Conception School (Revere) and Swampscott Middle School. All practices will be held after schoolin third floor project room (Room B301) from 3:20 p.m. - 4:10 p.m. For more information, see Avi Nagar - Math Team coach.

| MathCOUNTS Team This will be the third year Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School has a MathCOUNTS team. MathCOUNTS® is a national math enrichment, coaching & competition program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement in every U.S. state & territory. Celebrating its 25th anniversary, MathCOUNTS is one of the most successful education partnerships involving volunteers, educators, industry sponsors & students. The Massachusetts MathCOUNTS competition will be held in February 2008. See Mrs. Arnold for more details.

| Mock Trial The Mock Trial Team will meet in the 2nd floor Project Room. All middle school students are invited to join. This year the Mock Trial Team will compete against teams from four other middle schools. You can be an attorney or a witness.

| P-Slam Book Club The MVMMS P-Slam Book Club will meet after school. All middle school students are invited to join the P-Slam Book Club. A group of teachers and students will be reading Jodie Blanco's book Please Stop Laughing at Me! The book club will meet the first and third Tuesday of each month after school in the third floor project room.

| Scratch Club The Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School Scratch Club will meet after school in the Library Computer Lab. Did you ever want to design your own interactive animation, games, music, art or stories? Now middle school students can, using Scratch - a programming language that makes it easy and fun to create their own projects and to share them with others on the Internet. All students are welcome to join the Scratch Club. For more details, see Mrs. Arnold in the library.
