MVMMS Veterans Day Assembly Monday, November 10, 2008 - 9:00 a.m.
The Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School Veterans Day Assemblywill be held on Monday, November 10, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. in the auditorium. Over 80 U.S. Veterans and guests are scheduled to be on stage. The program will begin with a brief video featuring Jennifer Love Hewitt. The Massachusetts State Police Honor Guard will present the colors and the students body and guests will recite the "Pledge of Allegiance." Joey G., will sing the National Anthem. The Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School Band, under the direction of Mr. Buckley, and the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School Orchestra, under the direction of Mrs. Weeks, will perform. Shannon L., 8C, and Zeke V., 8B will deliever their respective student addresses. Lia K., 8B, will perform "Dr. Gradus ad Parnassum" by Claude Debussy on solo piano, and Eli K., MHS, will perform "Minuet" by J. S. Bach on solo cello. Alyssa A., 7B, Marlene D., 8B, Sarah R., 8C, and Katelyn P., 8C will sing three patriotic songs. Memorial flowers will be placed on the memorial sites that are located on campus and across the street at the Knoll. The guest speakers include members of the Massachusetts General Court, Mayor Dolan, and local Veterans. Parents are welcome to attend; seating is limited. At the conclusion of the assembly, there will be a special outdoor MVMMS Flagpole Dedication Ceremony in honor of Mario DiMeo (1921-2007), who served in World War II in the United States Army Air Corp with pride and distinction.
