The following Melrose Veterans Memorial
Middle School students will be
attending the Middlesex Middle School Peer Leadership Conference for Students
on Friday, January 20, 2011 at Nashoba
Valley Technical
High School in Westford
from 8:30 a.m. – 1:45 p.m.: Hassan P., 6A; Virginia G., 6B; Jack S., 6C; Tess C., 7A; Olivia R., 7C; Gerard F., 7A; Asha W., 8B; Maya T., 8B; and Ian D., 8B. The Youth
Everywhere Abstaining from Drugs (YOU LEAD) program is designed to empower
middle school student leaders to reinforce healthy decisions making
skills. The objective of this conference
is to support and empower drug-free youth; a population that unfortunately has often been
ignored by a culture that reflects use of alcohol and other drugs by adolescents
as the norm. Participants are
middle school students who are committed to a lifestyle free of alcohol and
drug use, included but not limited to existing youth groups such as SADD, Peer
Leadership, and student-athletes. Those
attending the conference will participate in leadership activities, learn
problem-solving techniques, develop effective strategies and action plans for
their schools, and network and share information and successful practices from
their schools with other schools. This
program is conducted in partnership with the MIAA and District Attorney –
Gerard T. Leone, Jr. For more
