Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School students in the sixth grade MCAS Prep classes will be reassigned on January 25, 2010 based on previous scores on MCAS Tests and other data.  This means that the students on each sixth grade team will become members of an advanced group, proficient group, needs improvement group, or a warning (remedial) group.  The groups will be homogeneous in nature.  The goal of the reassignment or the regrouping of students is to better meet the needs of all learners in preparation for the MCAS Spring 2010 Tests.  These changes have been added to the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School 2009-2010 MCAS Action Plan and School Performance Instrument.  Teachers will be working on the changes and developing new curriculum for the classes at workshops at the Melrose Teachers' Professional Development Day, on January 19, 2010.

Likewise, Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School students in the seventh grade MCAS Prep classes will be reassigned on January 25, 2010 based on previous scores on MCAS Tests and other data.  This means that the students on each seventh grade team will become members of an advanced group, proficient group, needs improvement group, or a warning (remedial) group.  The groups will be homogeneous in nature.  The goal of the reassignment is to better meet the needs of all learners in preparation for the MCAS Spring 2010 Test.

The schedules of Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School students in the eighth grade MCAS Prep classes will remain unchanged.  However, the three eighth grade algebra teachers will periodically regroup and cross-team like-minded students for the purpose of meeting the needs of all learners in preparation for the Spring 2010 MCAS Test.  These changes have already been implemented.  For more information contact Mr. Babineau, Melrose Math Department Head at jbabineau@melrose.mec.edu.
