All Melrose Veterans Memorial
Middle School eighth
grade students are eligible to take the Eight to-Ninth Grade Honors English
Placement Exam on Wednesday, February 15, 2012. It’s time to start thinking about scheduling Melrose High School
classes for the 2012-2013 school year. In order for students to be placed in appropriately challenging levels,
we are asking that all eighth graders considering honors English in 9th grade
at Melrose High School to participate in the placement
exam on February 15, 2012. The exam will
be administered by an MHS teacher in the MVMMS cafeteria from 8:30-10:00 am. Participating students will be asked to write
an MCAS open-response style composition based on a brief reading passage. All necessary materials will be provided, and
students will have a ninety minute time limit.
All current
eighth grade students are eligible to take the exam. Students with a 95% average for the YEAR in
grade 8 ADVANCED English as of February 1, 2012 are exempt from being required
to take the exam, but are STRONGLY encouraged to participate. Students need to be aware that all regular
classwork missed while participating in the placement exam must be made up in a
timely manner, and they will be strongly encouraged to check in with teachers
after school to get the work they missed. In order to have sufficient testing materials for participants, ALL
FORMS must be completed and returned to English teachers by Thursday, February
9, 2012. Failure to meet this deadline
will result in participation ineligibility. For more information, contact Mrs. Singer, English Department Head, at asinger@melrose.mec.edu.
