Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School eighth grade students in Mr. Palmieri’s health classes will be participating in the Healthy Relationships Program on February 1-8, 2012.  The Melrose Alliance Against Violence (MAAV) is working with Mr. Palmieri’s students to present this five–session program which teaches students about healthy and unhealthy dating relationships.  The topics addressed include: the four types of abuse, early warning signs of an abusive relationship, the ingredients of a healthy relationship, and how to get help for oneself or a friend.  The interactive program is taught by MAAV’s Education & Training Specialist, Alice Wadley, M.Ed., and features a survivor of teen dating violence as a guest speaker.  Students receive a folder which includes twelve handouts, a teen palm card of hotline numbers, and homework assignments which follow each session.  The goal of the program is to stop teen dating violence before it starts.  For more information, please contact Mrs. Rebecca Mooney, MAAV Executive Director, at 781-662-2010 and/or Mr. Palmieri, MVMMS health teacher, at apalmieri@melrose.mec.edu.  A special thank you to everyone involved in this program!
