MVMMS Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Assessment Process
2011-2012

Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School participated in a Blue Ribbon Schools Assessment during the 2010-2011 school year.  The initial fact finding and validation site visit by the Blue Ribbon School Panel was held during the week of October 12, 2010.  Prior to the site visit, the panel electronically surveyed all teachers, administrators, paraprofessionals, secretaries, the nurse, custodians, and other support staff.  They electronically surveyed as many of our 886 students as possible, along with their parents, community leaders, and volunteers.  The Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School Blueprint for Excellence Assessment Report is designed to assist in the school-wide action plan to ensure measurable student achievement.

The Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence, Inc., helps schools determine how well it is doing in nine areas of critical performance that research shows leads to educational excellence.  This comprehensive school assessment will guide the creation of a school-wide action plan that includes measurable student achievement.  It will involve a positive school improvement process to effect change exactly where needed.  This process is intended to help guide Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School into one the best schools in our country.  Such schools identified will receive the Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School Award and honored in an awards ceremony.

Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School has asked the members of the Melrose Chamber of Commerce, local business and civic leaders to support our involvement in the Blue Ribbon Schools Assessment process.  The Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School - School Council has embraced the process and is using it, in part, to improve teaching and learning at our school.  The following nine Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School Blue Ribbon Faculty Committees are being formed to develop action plans for school improvement:

1) Student Focus and Support Committee

2) School Organization and Culture Committee

3) Challenging Standards and Curriculum Committee

4) Active Teaching and Learning Committee

5) Technology Integration Committee

6) Professional Development Committee

7) Leadership and Educational Vitality Committee

8) School, Family, and Community Partnership Committee

9) Indicators of Success Committee
