Middle School students in
Ms. Gunner’s, Mr. Mayer’s, and Mrs. Haney’s A-Block English classes will be
meeting with Abraham Lincoln in the auditorium on Friday, January 20, 2012. That’s right, the former United States
President will be here thanks to Historical Perspectives for Children and a
grant from the MVMMS PTO Enrichment Committee. Mr. Lincoln will be here at 9:30 a.m.
"Abraham Lincoln is an affable, hard-working pioneer who
steals time to read and revels in the exciting worlds opened up to him through
books. He matures to move beyond the rugged frontier and establishes himself as
a trusted (and self-taught) lawyer. As his prominence continues to rise,
students will share in his discovery of true leadership as he guides America through
her most tumultuous period.
Historical Perspectives for Children’s curriculum-based
programs promote character education through inspiring, full-life portrayals of
men and women in history as role models for students in grades K-8. These engaging multi-media, interactive assembly programs
are designed to very specifically complement the social studies, science and
language arts Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
Children are enthralled as each character vividly dramatizes
their life from early childhood through adulthood, showing students how they
developed the character qualities needed to achieve their dreams and goals.
These captivating 45-minute programs include a question and answer period, and
comprehensive teacher packets are emailed one month in advance. Each year,
Historical Perspectives for Children inspires thousands of students in over 400
programs throughout the greater Boston
area." For more information, contact Ms. Haney at shaney@melrose.mec.edu.
