   Important Information

 We are very proud of the way our girl's basketball team represented our school and community during the MIAA Division 2 North Semi-Finals held at the TD Garden last night.  After capturing a share of the Middlesex League title and the MIAA Division 2 North Sectionals finals our team was defeated by Oliver Ames.  The team and coaching staff are to be commended for their hardwork and dedication to one another throughout the season and during post season play.  Go Red!

The boy's varsity, junior varsity, and freshmen basketball teams, will hold their break up dinner Thursday, March 16th at 6:30 in the Middle school team and conference area.

Any senior in Mr. Santo's Sociology class who plan on attending the field trip to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts to see the Tomb 10A exhibit must have their signed permission slips turned in by Thursday, March 11th.

Education Stations is accepting applications from current juniors and seniors for mentorship position.  The application is posted on line at www.educationsstations.com.  You may turn in the application in the Main Office to Mrs. Carpenter.

Any staff member interested in forming a team to participate in this years Trivia Bee on Saturday, March 27th at 7:00 p.m. should see Mrs. Carpenter in the Main Office.

 Club and Organization Activities

Reminder that tickets for the Hypnotist will be on sale all week during all three lunches for $10.00.  Behavior contracts must be in to attend.

The annual scholarship mail-a-thon is Saturday, March 13th from 9:00 - 1:00 a.m. at City Hall.  Several students are needed to assist at this fundraiser.  Community Service credit will be given.  See Mr. Savarino for more information.

Sophomore Student Government will be selling Melrose High School Snuggies at all three lunches for $20.00.  Contact a member of the Sophomore Student Government for more information.

Big Chef Little Chef event on Friday, March 12th at 3:00 p.m. in room 117.

Donations for Haiti Relief are needed.  Please donate any common items such as utensils, linens, tarps, tents, and medical supplies.  Donations are need as soon as possible and can be left in the designated box in the first floor lobby. Please contact the freshmen student government for further details.

Bring in jars of peanut butter, jelly or other canned goods to help feed families at Servant's Heart Food Pantry.  There will be a box in the main lobby.

A reminder to all students who are interested in helping the environment or are in need of community serve hours.  The Environmental Club meets every Tuesday after school in Ms. Troy's room.  Please come and help collect recycling around the building.

The International Club will be accepting donations to make a gift to the Red Cross at all three lunches to aid disaster relief in Haiti.  Any money or spare change is greatly appreciated.

Donate your inactive cell phones now to help the Thistle.  Bring your phones to the Main Office. 

 

 Sports Information

Any girl interested in playing softball for MHS this spring, please see Mr. Wall in room 223 during the day today for a schedule of next weeks tryouts.

The girls basketball team and coaching staff would like to thank the student body, faculty and staff and the community for their support throughout the season and during post season play.

We want to wish Jasmine Bertrand-Halidy good luck on Sunday as she represents Melrose Indoor Track at the Nike Indoor Nationals held in Boston on March 14th.  Jasmine will compete in the 60 meter dash against the best sprinters in the United States.  Good Luck Jasmine!

Miscellaneous

There are volunteer hours available at the Mayor's Office at City Hall after school and during the months of July and August.   After school hours would be approximately 1.5 hours a day.  Summer hours would be 2 days per week for 6 hours a day.  If you are interested please call Bridget Alverson 781-979-4440 for more details.

SADD will once again be collecting gently used prom dress for the Belle of the Ball organization.  Anton's Cleaners will be cleaning the dresses and they will be used at the annual event.  Please drop any dresses you may have in Room 115 or at Anton's Cleaners before April 1st.

Driver Education classes will begin at Melrose High School on Tuesday, January 26th.  Students should sign up in the Main Office.  Classes will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. in the Resource Center.  Please bring $225.00 cash/check deposit to the first class.  The cost is $500.00 plus a $15.00 Registry of Motor Vehicles fee for the Driver Education Certificate.  The course includes (30) hours of classroom instruction, (12) hours of Road Lessons and (6) hours of Observation time and a separate 2 hr. parent course required under Mass Law.  The Driver Education Certificate entitles you to a discount on insurance.  The use of our vehicle for the road test is an optional fee of $105.00.  The balance must be paid by the end of the classroom session in cash/check/money order (Payable to Pleasant Auto School) or credit card (MasterCard and Visa accepted).  A $10.00 processing fee will be charged for credit card payments.  Pleasant Auto School -781-284-4388.

 If any student is interested in a snow shoveling job for the winter and live in the area of the hospital see Mr. Savarino or the job posting in the 2nd floor office.
