One area still in need of volunteers is the library. For some
reason, this year we are having a tough time covering all the classes.
It seems that many people are asking to volunteer less often due to
work or home conflicts, which requires us to find more volunteers per
class. This may be appealing to you if you have limited time and are
only able to come in once or twice per month. Please consider giving
the school an hour or two per month and cover your child's library
class. And if you want more than that or don't want to be in a
classroom with your child, feel free to help in a class you don't have
a child in. Sometimes this works better for parent and child alike.
Please contact me if this opportunity appeals to you. If you have a
patient preschooler, you are welcome to bring him or her to this
volunteer opportunity.
Please remember you still need to be
registered with The Bridge if you want to volunteer. If you have not
done so, please do. You can do it in the Horace Mann Office any day of
the week. If you have any volunteer questions or concerns, feel free to
contact me:

As you may be aware, the Melrose Public Schools have an organization known as the Bridge, which pairs volunteers in the system with volunteer opportunities. We are lucky at Horace Mann, because we have a dedicated coordinator, Johanna Cohan, who focuses solely on Horace Mann volunteers and opportunities. Therefore, our volunteer system is very easy to navigate.
If you are a parent, grandparent, or simply a friend of our school, and like to work with children or other parents, there are volunteer opportunities at our school for you. Let us know what interests you (PDF).
Volunteering at Horace Mann is a great way for new parents to get to know other parents and get a glimpse of the great place your child spends his or her day at school. As you get the enjoyment of working with others, our school becomes a better place for our students.
Before you may volunteer in our schools you must be registered with the Bridge.
Registration is easy — below we have provided registration forms for "new volunteers",
"previously registered volunteers" and a form for those who wish to be
listed in the Human Resource Directory. Please fill out the form(s) that
best describes your volunteer status and send to Emily Rubenstein at the Bridge via USPS or fax (781.979.2285), or drop it off at the Horace Mann office.
