Miss Benski, HM Art Teacher, will be starting a Drawing Club! Students in third, fourth and fifth grades are invited to participate in various drawing activities every Tuesday morning. The club sessions will begin the third week in November and continue throughout the school year. More information is available at the first meeting. All club sessions are held in the Art Room from 7:30 AM until morning line-up. Students are encouraged to “drop in” at anytime!
Staples Recycle for Education has made some changes to their ink/laser toner cartridge recycling program. Effective immediately, the only ink/laser toner cartridges that will be accepted to the program are HP, Lexmark and Dell. All other cartridges are no longer accepted and should not be sent in for this rewards program.
Remember, this is any easy way to help Horace Mann raise money that can be spent on supplies at Staples because we receive $3 in Staples rewards for each cartridge recycled.
All students entering Kindergarten are required to
provide the school nurse with a copy of required immunizations and a
copy of a physical exam including a lead screening.
All New Transfer Students to Horace Mann are also
required to provide the School Nurse with a copy of a Doctor's Physical
Exam and Immunization Record upon admission to school. This rule is in
compliance with the requirements of MA General Laws.
Children who are not fully immunized are not allowed to attend school, unless religious or medical exemptions apply.
Third Grade students are recommended to have a Physical Exam and have a copy sent to the School Nurse by December 31.
Mandated State Screenings including Vision, Hearing, Height/Weight, (gr.K-5) and Scioliosis, (gr.5) are provided annually in school. • Please dress your child appropriately with upcoming cold weather.
• Remember they need to wear sneakers for recess and P.E. Also, with upcoming cold and flu season, remember to follow good hand washing skills and eat healthy snacks.
• Please follow school protocol for communicable diseases and for any prescription medications that are needed at school. If your child has an orthopedic injury, a note from your doctor is needed for recess and P.E. restrictions.
Contact the H.M. School Nurse, Marsha Gibbons, with any questions or concerns at 781-665-6865 or mhgibbons@melrose.mec.edu
Please remember to call in on the Save-a-Child line (781-979-2192) if your child is going to be out sick or tardy to school. You can also order his/her lunch at that time since it needs to be called in by 9:15 each morning. Now that the weather is getting colder, please remember to label your children's outerwear including hats and gloves (if possible) and lunch boxes so they won't end up in the Lost and Found or if they do, they'll be returned!
