Come
one, come all! The Hoover Science Fair is coming up! We have over 110
participants and an amazing variety of intriguing science topics.
The
Science Fair is open to the public during the following times:
Friday,
March 2nd from 6:00-7:30PM (K-2 will be exhibiting)
Monday,
March 5th from 6:00-7:30PM (3-5 will be exhibiting)
Please
feel free to come one or both nights. The Science Fair will be a great family
fun event with door prizes, raffles, a hands-on game table by Learning Express,
pizza and snack concessions, and of course a lot of passionate kids displaying
what they learned while experimenting with science! In addition, a Next Step
Living representative will be there to answer questions and get sign ups for
no-cost home energy assessments.

Schedule for Hoover Science Fairs, Friday March 2 (K-2) and Monday
March 5 (3-5)
Morning
7:30-8:05 AM -- Set up trifolds and props in the multi-purpose
room (MPR). You will be given stickers to label all trifolds and props so
materials are not misplaced. You will be directed to your display location
where students should set up their projects in the space allowed. Participants
should be in their classrooms by 8:15, the regularly scheduled time. If setting
up will take some time, please plan to come closer to 7:30 AM.
8:45-10:40 AM -- In 1/2 hour blocks, grade levels will have a
chance to walk through the science fair and participants will share their
projects with classmates. For example, kindergarten students will walk through
the MPR while their classmates are manning their displays.
10:40 AM -- All projects will be moved to the stage by volunteers
to make way for lunch. Volunteers will move projects back to tables around 4:30
PM.
Evening
5:00-5:15 PM -- Participants return to school to make sure that
projects are ready to go for the big night. Coats can be left in the Lacount
Kindergarten classroom. Children should be accompanied by a parent at all
times. Volunteers placing materials on tables may not set up things as you
prefer, so give yourself time to be ready by 5:30 judging.
5:30-6:15PM -- Judging occurs. Ideally, each project will be
visited by 3 judges who will use a rubric (simple scorecard) to evaluate
student projects. Here is a link to the rubric that will be used: https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=true&srcid=0B2kn-y9DwHvSZTEyM2U5NzctZWU5NS00YWNlLWI0MGUtZmQ0Y2ZmNmMzMWY1
6:00-7:30PM -- Science Fair is open for public viewing. Students
can take a quick break in the Lacount Kindergarten classroom after their
project's been judged. Again, children should be accompanied by a parent.
Pizza, snacks and water will be sold starting around 6 PM. As much as possible,
children should stay with their project to show it to the public viewers.
7:15-7:30PM -- Prizes and raffle winners announced.
