Fine Arts Mission Statement

The mission of the Melrose Fine Arts Department is to foster life long learning.  Through the Arts, students are equipped to become productive, expressive members of a diverse global community.

An effective arts curriculum is cumulative and comprehensive. Divergent thinking and higher order problem solving build self –esteem, self awareness and contribute to essential human experiences. Students explore new media and are connected to a variety of resources and techniques using methods of instruction that are responsive to the individual expressive learner.  Examination of historical and cultural significance in the arts leads to deeper understanding of self, others and the world.
