Title I Program

Title I is the largest federal assistance program for our nation's schools. Since the goal of Title I is a high quality education for every child, Title I funds are specifically allocated to provide extra help to students that need it most.

Children are selected for the Title I Program after a screening process that usually occurs in the early spring. The screening provides an opportunity for Title I staff to assess children's strengths and weaknesses and act as a resource for families interested in locating pre-kindergarten opportunities. The Title I Program uses a variety of teaching methods and materials in preparing preschoolers for their kindergarten experience. To ensure we meet the needs of our students, Title I staff involve families in all aspects of the program.

Any child who lives in Melrose and is four years old by September 1st prior to their September start date is eligible to be screened for the Title I Program. Title I classes meet Monday through Thursday in either a morning or afternoon session.
