ATTENTION ALL TRIVIA ENTHUSIASTS
The buzz around town is that it's time to sign up for the Annual Melrose Trivia Bee, a fundraiser to support The Bridge: A School/Community Partnership. Right now, all over Melrose people are planning their teams so they can participate in this exciting event, to be held at Memorial Hall on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at 7:00pm.
The concept of the Trivia Bee is this: teams of three people who possess lots of useful and useless knowledge compete to answer trivia questions until only one team is left to be named Trivia Champions of Melrose. All teams have time to confer and are asked to answer the same question.
Teams may represent any constituency: a neighborhood, a family, businesses of all types, a club, a non-profit organization, a governmental group. The entry fee is just $225 per team. As always we encourage creative financing. Your team can seek corporate sponsorship for the whole amount. Team members can create a mini trivia-thon by seeking many smaller donations to raise the fee.
Since this is a serious evening of fun and frivolity, we encourage clever team names, funny costumes and good natured competition. Friends and relatives of team members are welcome to come to Memorial Hall to cheer them on. Admission for spectators is free. There will be a goods and services raffle and a few games for audience members to play.
The generous sponsor of this fund raising event is East Boston Savings Bank. Their sponsorship allows all money raised to support the school volunteer program of The Bridge. As a result of The Bridge's volunteer program people from the community have tutored students, screened students' vision and hearing, worked in elementary school reading programs and libraries, augmented curriculum by presenting talks or demonstrations, participated in Melrose Community Reading Days, and assisted in myriad tasks that might otherwise have taken valuable teacher and staff time.
