How much time must I have available if I want to volunteer? There are many different types of jobs available, each requiring a different amount of time. You can be a school volunteer if you have as little as half an hour a week or as much as five days a week to share with students.
Do all school volunteers work during school hours? Most volunteers activities take place between 8:00 AM and 2:30 PM; a few special projects require help before school (7:30-8:15) or after school (2:30-3:30 PM).
Is there any way to help if I can't be available on a regular basis? People who want to make a contribution but can't make a regular commitment can volunteer to give a presentation, demonstration, or talk in their special area of interest. These people are listed in the Melrose Public Schools "Human Resource Directory".
Do I have to live in Melrose to volunteer? People from any community are welcome to volunteer.
What if I've never before volunteered in a school? I might not know what to do. Is there any way I can help? Yes! The Bridge will provide training for any task in which you might become involved.
What does the Trivia Bee have to do with The Bridge? Replacing the successful Spelling Bee, the Trivia Bee has become the major fund raising event for The Bridge, It is an annual, city-wide activity, at which participants representing city government, businesses of all types, professional offices, civic groups, non-profit organizations and private citizens pit their wits to discover which group knows the greatest amount of useless and semi-useless information. It's a serious evening of fun and frivolity!

The Bridge: A School/Community Parnership was established in 1993. It came into being as a result of the Melrose Public Schools Strategic Planning Process and was originally funded by a state grant and subsequently by fundraising. In order to survive and grow. The Bridge must seek private and public funding as well as contributions from the community. The Bridge benefits students, teachers, the volunteers themselves, and the entire Melrose community. Please give generously to ensure the continued existence of this important program.

Volunteers bring diversity of culture, skills, experience and perspective. They provide a bridge between the schools and the community-at-large.
Volunteers and salaried staff working together are supported by a volunteer management system that enables trust and respect to flourish.
